Full Title: Thomas Browne, Religio Medici (London, 1642)

Religio Medici is Browne’s personal meditation on Christianity. The first edition appeared in 1642, without Browne’s authorisation, with a frontispiece engraved by William Marshall (active 1617–49). On seeing the unauthorised publication, Browne vowed ‘within a few Weekes I shall, God willing, deliver unto the Presse the true and intended Originall’. Keeping to his word, Browne published his own edition in 1643.
