Telegrams

Telegrams were used to convey messages of both personal and private matters. They were used to tell soldiers where and when to report for duty, like shown in one of these images.

Telegrams were also used to communicate with different parts of the armed forces to convey important messages, such as the fact that hostilities would cease on 11th November 1918.

Many families feared the arrival of the person delivering telegrams, as these were sent to the family of a soldier if he was killed or injured.
