Mentioned in Despatches certificate

If someone is 'Mentioned in Dispatches' (MiD), his or her name is listed in the London Gazette following a report from a superior officer sent to to the high command. MiD is a form of recognition for bravery and did not originally come with any reward other than the honor of being recognised and mentioned. Later, it was decided that those being mentioned would be allowed to carry an oak leaf emblem on the ribbon of their Victory medal and a special certificate was issued.
