Ostrich eggs were a novelty to the world Browne lived in. In his text Musaeum Clausum (1684), he made a list of imaginary and sometimes impossible objects that one might find in a cabinet of curiosities. One such object is a painted ostrich egg detailing the Battle of Alcazar. Browne enjoyed collecting eggs, which he categorised and displayed in his home in Norwich.
