Letter from John Wordsworth, Commoners, to his father Revd Wordsworth, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge - 2 Jun 1822

In this letter, John Wordsworth (the poet’s nephew) writes to his father Christopher with details of what he is studying in 6th Book. For Latin they were reading Cicero, Horace, Virgin and Longinus, and for Greek they had to learn a book of Homer (about 600 lines) every week. On a Saturday morning, twenty lines from the book were chosen for the boys to translate, and at the end of the half, those with the fewest faults were given a book. The letter includes a copy of his entry for the Latin verse medal task.
