Pay book

Pay book

The pay book was issued to those serving and was used to record information about them. Changes were noted in the book (for example inoculations and promotions) as well as wages paid.

Here are two examples, one British (Lawrence Fowler) and one German (Otto Stephan). Fowler survived the war, but Stephan did not. The hole in Stephan's book is allegedly from the bullet that killed him.
