Wooden Cross (3D)

Wooden Cross (3D)

This wooden cross would originally have been used to mark the grave of Captain C. R. Gorell Barnes in Abbeville Extension Cemetery. When the Imperial (later Commonwealth) War Graves Commission replaced it with the now-familiar Portland stone headstone after the War, his family were offered the original wooden marker by which to remember him. This wooden cross has been in the family’s possession ever since.

You can read Captain Barnes’ full story on the Lest We Forget archive and see his entry in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s casualty database.
