Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
Key Points:
- Rapidly growing keratotic nodule (central adherent keratin horn) on sun exposed site
- Dome shaped
- Can occur in scars or chronic ulcers and sometimes presents as eroded papule or plaque
- More common and more aggressive in immunosuppressed patients e.g. organ transplant recipients
- Standard treatment is surgical excision
- Cure achieved if low risk cancers excised. High risk cancers can lead to nodal and distant metastases in up to 5%
