Embroidered cards

Cards embroidered with silk on gauze are perhaps some of the prettiest and most colourful objects from the period of the war. These cards were usually created in France and Belgium, and offered the women there a source of income. Thousands of them were made and bought by British troops, to be sent home to family and friends.

A large collection of cards is displayed on the http://www.silkpostcard.co.uk website, created by a private collector.
