The World in 1700

In 1700, China is ruled by the Qing empire (1644-1912), which covers much more land than the Ming. The Qing were Manchu northerners, not Han Chinese. India is dominated by the Muslim Mughal Empire; the Safavids rule in Persia. Peter the Great has transformed Russia into a huge Eurasian empire. The Ottoman empire still survives in Middle East, North Africa and the Balkans, though their expansion has been checked in Europe by the Hapsburg Empire (here marked as 'Austria'). Europe has splintered into many states, but some states (Britain, France, Spain, Netherlands) are seeking to expand their colonial possessions across the world.
